Sirefef Infection - Please help

I have done some research into the problem through your forums, and I have an idea of what I need to do (get rid of a Sirefef), but I would still like some guidance to make sure I don’t mess anything up on my computer. I am experiencing the C://windows/installer… malgen and trojangen message popping up with Avast! every couple of minutes. Reports to be attached.

When I ran the aswMBR - it scanned everything, but got stuck on the last “category” and never came up as “scan complete.” After waiting 20 minutes for it to move, I decided to go ahead and save/attach the file since the Sirefef files were identified. When it finishes - I will update the file. - File Updated

Since I have a Sirefef, I ran the FSS. However, I haven’t been having internet problems other than the Avast! threat pop up with the C://Windows/Installer… Message

My firewall is disabled, but Avast! runs at all times.

It’s been 10 days since I posted - Can I please get some help from somebody?

Thank you.

malware remover is notified.

Hi there, apologies for missing you

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

THEN

Could you run a fresh OTL scan please

Thank you both for your assistance! My computer is running the same, but I was never having problems other than AVAST continuing to pop up 5-10 times in a row with blocked “programs.”

When I tried to run ComboFix, it was going well, and then my screen flashed black and I saw a white box when the screen came back. (Screen cap of box attached.) My computer did restart, but afterwards I couldn’t find the C:\ComboFix.txt file. I searched my computer to see if it happened to be hidden, but no files were found.

I did rerun the OTL, and included the file. I didn’t enter the special command like the first instructions, so if I needed to, please let me know and I’ll run it again.

OK as it is playing hard to get I will beat it into submission

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

Now that looks better, how is the computer behaving now ?

Doing well. So far I have had an “Avast” notification of an update popup, but none concerning blocked programs! Thank you!

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
