Site blocking

Avast does not block https sites for some reason?
Is it just me
On the latest version

Well since the site blocking is effectively a feature of the web shield, which doesn’t monitor HTTPS traffic, I’m not to surprised that it doesn’t block HTTPS URL strings.

If you try to enter an https url string in the site blocking it prefixes http : // in front of it and that would fail anyway as there is no such match.
see image example.

Yes, I noticed that.
I wish to stop my granddaughter from using facebook when she visits.
I can block Facebook easy enough but the little rascals have a way around that.
They do the following
https://schoolisgood.com and that gives the direct login.
This website says it all

Hello David,
try to use some program for parental control. I’m pretty sure that will help you.

@ DavidCo,

Interesting that that schoolisgood site security certificate has run out also and also tries to identify itself with invalid information (see images). So I would be trying other avenues to block that.

If you and they use firefox, you could use AdBlockPlus add-on to block that site. Aside from the Sirmer’s suggestion to use parental control software (which can be set to evade being stopped or circumvented) you could try using the www.OpenDNS.com DNS server.

That has a default setting and also a Dashboard feature, where you can select site categories to block or you can also block specific sites.

I take it that you have given them limited user accounts that they have to use ?

Kids…what can you say…we had a lot of fun finding ways to circumvent our schools blocking systems. One of my favourites was to open frontpage, insert a link, and then use the preview function to load a page…played many games that way ;D ;D

Your router may also be an option too. I can block keywords etc though it…
