I want to advise a family member to d/l Avast Home Edition but not sure what is what. Via the Alwil site you are directed to cnet and they say it is version 4.7.942 with date added Feb 5, 2007. The setup file size is 12.7MB.
If she goes to filehippo then she can d/l v4.7.1001 with a file size of 14.1MB.
I know that it can be updated once installed but she is preparing her new puter before connecting it to the internet.
Which should I advise?

I don’t know where you are finding this "Via the Alwil site you are directed to cnet " the official site to download the avast program is avast.com using the link Spyros gave.
You will also need to register, complete the avast! 4 Home Registration form and you will receive an email from register @ avast.com (without the spaces) with your registration key.

Ah an update to the download page, must be as a result of the Cnet 5 star rating for avast antivirus. Shane they can’t keep the version available up to date.
Tech - that’s the one and like DavidR I also find it strange that Cnet cannot update.
Also - the line “For language versions other than English please use the table below.” will make more sense if it read “For all other language versions (incl English) please use the table below.”
