So, I bought a new computer with Windows Vista not long ago. The thing shipped with a 60 day trial of Norton’s antivirus, and the trial was about to expire. So I looked for a free but decent antivirus program and found Avast, which sounded somewhat promising. I can’t say I’ve been very satisfied with it during the week or so I’ve used it.
Everything’s happening extremely slowly. Even an asthmatic slug towing a truck is faster. It took me five minutes to log in (which I could do in about thirty seconds), I had to wait for three minutes in the “Welcome” screen and so on. Basically, after I got rid of Norton and installed Avast, time seems to have stopped.
Am I doing something wrong or…? I noticed some people have had problems with running ZoneAlarm and Avast at the same time, but I don’t have ZoneAlarm, so that can’t be the reason.
Usually 9.9 times out of 10 when people have problems with Avast (or any other AV) its because they havent removed Norton properly (or should I say completely)
that is a link to the removal tool
Can i suggest you run it to be sure then search for any norton or symmantic files and clean your registry as well then if your`e still not working better post a Hyjack this log and let us see whats going on
Not totally true, you had some help with NAV, which is notorious for this sort of thing. There are times when I think, why don’t they repair their uninstall routine. Then I think, why should they, what incentive is there none. If a user quits and tries another AV and experiences problems how many would go back to the evil they know rather than try to resolve the problem.
Now this is my suspicious mind working overtime and seeing things that aren’t probably there, but this remnants issue has been around for years yet it isn’t fixed.
