I’ve put avast on 4 computers. On 2 of them, both with Vista, I’ve noticed that Windows takes a long while to shut down. After clicking shutdown, it will show the desktop wallpaper for like 2 minutes and then “shutting down” for another 2 minutes or so. Normally shutdown usually takes about 20 seconds. I’m not 100% sure it’s Avast that is the cause but it did seem to start after installing it. Thanks for any suggestions.
did you remove previous used AV according to vendors instructions and using vendors removal tools?
General: Uninstalling a third-party antivirus software

Yes, I removed MSE using add/remove programs in control panel.
Ok, so I went to the MSE related link you provided and ran the “fix it” program they offer and now the computer seems to be shutting down normally. Thanks.
It appears the issue persists.
Edit: I ran CCcleaner and disabled everything but avast in startup and also did some speed up shutdown vista tweaks and so far (5 shutdowns) it has been fine.
But it was also fine for a few shutdowns after i ran the microsoft fix it so we’ll see.
