On a DSL net connection, using Vista on a new PC running an Intel E6600, 2 GB memory, Avast, FireFox and ZoneAlarm, it takes longer, 20 to 30 seconds, to load a web page than it did on a replaced P-III with 256 MB memory running Avast, ZoneAlarm and FireFox, which loaded almost immediately. If I turn off Avast Web Shield, web pages load immediately. I am not real sure what Web Shield does, but it must be required to provide need protection. Can anyone explain why, what can be done to resolve the problem and/or if Avast is working on a fix?
This shouldn’t be the case, it certainly isn’t mine and I only have dial-up, so there has to be something else going on. The web shield effectively redirects http port 80 traffic through a localhost proxy so it can intercept and scan http content.
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
What other security based software do you have that might have an impact, anti-spyware, etc. ?
No AV installed, just the items listed on a new PC. The only other software running on the PC is the stuff Vista loads.
Not only no AV installed, but ‘also’ any previous AV, new PCs often come with an AV installed (trial or otherwise).
The system came with Norton, which I immediately removed, no need to pay for Norton when Avast is as good and the home version is free. I used Avast for a year or two on older PC and am pleased with it’s performance. I am aware that two AVs do not make for a happy situation on one PC, past experience.
I have the same problem. There is also a topick in this Forum. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=29323.0. Can it be a problem with the windows defender? I ask me if everbody how use Vista and Avast have the Problem, or did it make a problem with Zone Labs?
Connecter, do you also use Zone Alarm firewall?
Yes I do! First time i notice this problem i think Zone Laps were the problem.
Fully Norton remove (uninstall). You can start by step 2 if you already did the 1.
- Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
- Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista 2008.0.0.21.
- Boot.
- Install avast! Boot.
- See what you get.

Tech, thank you for the info. I Googled the three .exe programs, just to make sure they were okay and they appear legit. I will read all info and then download and run them as you have suggested. I will advise you in a day or two the results. Again thanks…
Which ones? ???
I Googled all three to see what they were and where they come from, just to be safe or as safe as possible. I don’t want to download and run any program that could possibly do more damage than good. Would you?
I won’t suggest a program that could possibly do more damage than good. Would you?
