slow file transfer + Avast freeze during scan

last week while organizing pictured from a trip I noticed the files transferring at a very slow rate ( minutes instead of seconds). I did a disk check and found no errors then proceeded to do an avast scan(running 4.8 free version). The scan stalled at 68% on a recycler file on my second hard drive. On ding a search for the file I found out about a worm virus and tried the advice of deleting it while in DOS with explorer.exe not active.
When that didnt work I did boot scan and caught several infected/corrupted files on my extra drive and one on my c drive. Thinking I was in the clear I ran a Thorough scan only to freeze avast again, this time while scanning the c drive. Now looking for help I ran MWBM but that found nothing with a quick scan.
I am not sure if I have a virus or some other problem but my tech savvy has run out and I could use some advice on dealing with this.

you can let Essexboy have a look ? follow the guide and post the logs http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

To avoid using 20 post with copy and paste you have to attach the log`s

Lower left corner: Additional Options > Attach ( OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. )

lets see what this tells us. btw I notice I cannot get to the forums on that computer anymore. is that normal? e-mailed the logs to myself so I could post from my lap top

sometimes the forum is very slow, i have had some timeouts today also...

looking at other posts it seems combo fix and posting the log is the next step. would I be jumping the gun to do this now?

Hi I see you are working on a raid system so we need to be a tad careful

I have noticed that at some stage an infected USB was connected to your drive, also

[Antivirus Events ]

But there was nothing else of note. When you try to connect to this forum what errors do you get ?

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:OTL O33 - MountPoints2\{a5811aca-de69-11dc-a2d5-0018e700c820}\Shell\AutoRun\command - "" = Iexplores.exe

:Commands
[purity]
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[EMPTYFLASH]
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

I will do that as soon as I get home from work and post the log but I still have that USB drive.

The USB drive is an external hard drive that I use for back up. Is running an avast scan the right solution for the external?

the log that was asked for

file transfers are occurring at normal speeds; have not attempted any additional scans yet.

is it safe to plug the infected drive in if i do not let it auto play and will a normal scan eliminate the virus or will I jsut be opening myself to re-infection?

Thanks tons!

Before you plug in the affected drive

1 - Flash Drive Disinfector
Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs from here and save it to your desktop.

[*] Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
[] The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
[
] Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
[*] Reboot your computer when done.

Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you run it. Don’t delete this folder…it will help protect your drives from future infection.

so I am home from a long and wonderful vacation and the problems with my virus are gone. . .maybe? everything is running quickly and quick scans find no virus but one of my internal drives can no longer be written to and occasionally has consistency errors (windows has been scanning it at start up). Is it possible this is a problem the virus caused that is still around or that the virus (or some other virus) is still present?

all other drives are acting as normal it is just this one whos age I cannot recall (more than 2 less than 3?)
