I have Windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit and I just installed Avast Free Antivirus 18.8 which is the last version which will be available for WinXP.
I noticed that the OS gets slowed down while I shut it down: it takes more than usual for the OS to perform the step of saving the settings before shutting down.
If I remove Avast Free Antivirus 18.8 the step of saving the settings before shutting down the OS is fast as usual.
I am aware that I might not be able to retain the normal fast speed in the step of saving the settings before shutting down the OS, since the antivirus might need some time to do stuff.
Anyways: is there a setting (or maybe more than one setting) of Avast Free Antivirus 18.8 which I could modify in order to have the OS performing faster the step of saving the settings before shutting down?
Many users don’t realize that the last step on OS does on shutdown is the most important. That is the time all data important to the OS and programs is written and saved to disk for next session use. How long it takes depends on many variables, including antivirus activity, but it is important to know it cannot be interrupted at risk of data loss.
Since 18.8 is the last supported version for XP you have two options:
[ol]- Revert to an older supported version, i.e., 18.5
Use the sleep mode and reboot/shutdown once or twice a week, thus keeping the annoyance factor down to a minimum[/ol]
