Slow Internet Explorer (Web Rep?)

Hi,
I am using internet explorer to browse the Web, but since I have installed Avast! the Browser’s performance is slower. I think the culprit is Avast Web Rep toolbar as this is the add on that takes more time to start!
Most of the times IE crashes and restarts it self.
I am running Windows 7 Home 32 bits SP1
Avast 7.0.1426
IE 9 (updated via windows update)
What can I do to solve this issue.
I am running other Add-ons: Adobe flash (also up to date) some office 2010 thingies, Adobe Reader, and something related with Microsoft messenger.

Well… Web Rep does not have a toolbar… It appears on search pages content (it’s a plugin).
You can uninstall Web Rep at avast! > Additional protection > Browser protection > Uninstall

I have defragmented the HDD and everything is faster now. it also crashes a lot less frequently. I notice that msxml3.dll is making the browser crash too, besides aswWebRepIE.dll think I ill try a registry defrag and cleaner. I read that it might help with the msxml3.dll. Any suggestion of a program to defrag and clean the registry?

Take care, most of the times you do more harm than good. Defrag is not a problem.

msxml3.dll is from Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML). Is your Windows fully updated?

yes it is up to date, just checked
so… you would not recommend me to defrag nor clean the registry?
by clean I mean check for old unsed entrys… left overs and such

The only registry tool i would ever use would be CCleaner but if you require to go a bit deeper then Eusing would be the “safest” choice imo, i highlighted safest as it is safer than most reg cleaners but there are always risks when cleaning the registry http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm please make sure to backup the registry first before running the tool just in case you end removing something you shouldn’t.
As for defraging try a boot time defrag with Defraggler http://www.piriform.com/defraggler/download/slim

CCleaner could be used for cleaning. I’ll use nothing more aggressive.
Defrag is good/useful. There are quite some free tools for that, from Piriform to Auslogics.

Hi,
Avast WebRep module is no longer crashing IE  (at least for now)
Yet msxml3.dll still crashes IE.
This is the repport generated by Windows. (is in portuguese sorry for that)

I do realese that this may no longer be an Avast issue and therefore I am looking for help in the wrong place. If so, I appreciate all the help given so far  and will hapilly look for help elsewhere.

EDIT:
This may need a litle bit more of troubleshooting…
Turns out avast webrep is causing “faults” on msxml3.dll and thus crashing IE.
I disabled the WebRep add-on and closed and reopened the browser multiple times - No crashes
If I have WebRep enabled and close and reopen IE multiple times, 1 out of 3 times IE crashes.

Any ideas out to work this out?

Actually, WebRep crashes IE9. 100% smoking gun repeatable:

  1. Click on XML file in Windows 7 (32-bit) Explorer
  2. IE9 loads and crashes immediately. 100%. Every time.
  3. Load IE9 from start menu
  4. Select Options, Manage Add-ins
  5. Disable Avast WebRep
  6. Try again to click on XML file in Windows 7. Problem gone. Click and load IE9 as many times as you want.
  7. Renable webrep, problem comes back 100% repeatable.
  8. Disable webrep, problem goes away 100% repeatable.
