Since I started to use avast the handling of mail has slowed down dramatically. To delete a mail takes seconds(seconds, seems like forever, probably 5-10 seconds, sometimes more. May not seem long but when you are deleting 10 messages…) and so does shifting from one mail to another. Is this normal? If not; anything I can do? Have used Norton, F-secure and Nod32 and never noticed this “problem”.

Have you set the sensitivity of the Standard Shield to "High? If so, this is most likely the cause. This is because every time you make such an action in TB, the large data file that holds your email is accessed (updated) which triggers a rescan of the file by the on-access scanner (the Standard Shield).
Is the CPU load high while you see the delays (use the Task Manager to determine this). If so, which process is taking up the CPU?
There has been a similar issue experienced by another user, but for him, it was the Standard Shield. Here’s a quote from our communication:

** Scan created/modified files
** Only files with selected extension
** Default extension set (recommended)
If you still need me to run this test, I could change this setting back to “All Files” and run your test. Let me know (by sending this message back, which has your prior message with directions below). I’m assuming that because I’ve identified the cure that you don’t need the test anymore.
I’m guessing that Mozilla Thunderbird keeps the mail in large files, and anytime I moved or deleted a message, your program was rechecking that file, which being large, caused a delay.[/i]
Hmm, that’s strange, really. Does disabling (turning off) the avast on-access scanner make any difference anyway? Or what makes you think it’s got something to do with avast?
I´ve had no problem of sorts using other AVs. I gotta go now. But later I will read up and check all settings once more and do some tests. Problem solved or not- I´ll post the result here. Thanks for all the help.
