I installed free avast in 3 machines (windows 7, vista sp2 e xp sp3).
The problem is only happening in XP sp3.
When I open any of the shields (the screen that show the graphics in flash with the files scanned/infected) the computer starts to be slow, the mouse moves and stops, move and stops…
But when I change to any other screen that doesnt have this graphics in flash, everything get back to normal.
It only happens in xp sp3. In the other machines I didnt notice this behavior.
It seems that this problem is not just about a jerky mouse pointer. This has been already dealt with in the Beta Child Board in the topic “Mouse pointer jerky in synch with ‘SHIELD TRAFFIC’ graph refresh” (see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53655.msg455123#msg455123).
I don’t think it has anything to do with installation for here is what happens on my two Windows XP SP3 computers:
The CPU usage keeps oscillating between 47% and near zero (no other significant taks running) in one computer and between 6% to near zero in the other, both in pace with the graphics refresh. In the faster computer there is no mouse “jerkiness” just because it is masked by the higher speed.
So… it is too much CPU usage for such a simple task, and there lies the problem.
