Smart scan in W10

Installed Avast Free 17.5 in W7 as well as W10. It looks like the smart scan option works fine in W7 but not in W10. In W10 sometimes it automatically starts again, sometimes it freezes, sometimes it looks like it is running, but the percentage is not increasing.
Using windows explorer I started a scan on the C-drive, that seems to work.
Any suggestions?

Marcel

Perform a Repair of your Win10 install:

Programs and Features>Right-click avast>Select Change>Select Repair

Reboot when done.

A smart scan and a scan from explorer are two different things.

And he is saying that one is working the other not

win10 (pro) user here. It runs perfectly fine.

Have tried a repair, but that fails

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Hi,

In w10 a clean offline install did the trick indeed: smart scan works fine, and avast itself also seems to do the job.
In an earlier stage I had updated Avast Free in W7 using the ‘program-update’ facility in the program itself. That seemed to work fine.
However, in W10 having done a clean install without problems I decided to do the same in W7, just to clean up any old mess.
So I did and it seemed to go OK: after offline installation it all worked. But then I ran into a weard problem: running Internet Explorer, on all HTTPS sites I got a message about problems with the certificate of that site. On some of the sites I could continue, on others not.
This was unworkable, so went back to an image of W7.

Any ideas why Avast Free seems to have bad influence on my Internet-usage?
Marcel

Nobody having any suggestion about this HTTPS problem?

Marcel

Wait for Eddy, he speaks your language.

Hi,

Reading a bit more on this forum I found the solution for my W7-AvastFree HTTPS problem.
I did the clean install again and after that I unchecked the ‘HTTPS scans’ option.
Avast as well as IE seems to be working ok now.
However, I can’t oversee the consequences of unchecking that option, maybe somebody could kinda explain that to me.

TIA, Marcel

i thought win7 doesnt have the https issue, what am i missing here?

About the failing repair, change your DNS to the one from Google and try again.
