Smart scan stuck

Hi, I’m trying to run my monthly smart scan but it keeps stopping at 71% complete (the ‘scanning for performance issues’ mark). I restarted it, but the same thing happened. Should I just wait for it to push through this time?

Earlier today I ran Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware: Both scans were okay.

*edit: I forgot to mention that the blue scanning circle still moves, so it’s not like Avast itself is frozen.

You dont need SpyBot when you have SAS

Give it an hour

It’s still stubborn at 71%, even after an hour. I was able to do a ‘quick scan’ so maybe I’ll try the smart scan tomorrow…

Re Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware: Why don’t I need both? Admittedly, I’m in over my head when it comes to this, but I thought each one looked for/could detect different issues.

SpyBot is not doing anything SAS is not doing. Also SpyBot update once a week (evry wednesday if i remeber correct) SAS update several times a day, SAS are also member at VirusTotal, meaning they get copy of all malware samples that are uploaded/shared there

And SpyBot teatimer used to conflict with avast. Anyway, your computer your choice

I didn’t know that, thank you!
I’ll remove Spybot.

A very long time ago these were on top of their game, Spybot and its Tea Timer has in the past conflicts with some startup entries (avast for one) . SAS is better but still old school, so as mentioned if you were going to keep one this would be it.

MBAM is better, but that can be a resource hog, though version 3.1 is meant to be lighter. I abandoned it when version 3.0 came out.
