SmartScan and Wi Fi Inspector

I ran a SmartScan and a Wi Fi Inspector scan just now and I don’t know why SmartScan shows no issues when the Wi Fi Inspector shows an issue.

Which scan is accurate?

Edit: typo

Since no one replied to my post and I don’t know which scan is accurate I’m going to stop using this win 10 computer and hook up another win 10, uninstall Avast and install a different anti-virus program. I don’t feel safe using Avast anymore.

OK … and how many times have we heard that before

you’ll soon be back ;D

@Pondus,

I’ll wait awhile because Comcast is going to give me a new router.

Did you change the default sign in information for the Comcast supplied router ???

@bob3160,

Are you talking about the one I have now? If so, I forgot the password to my router. I talked to a tech at Comcast and he told me to reset my router and it would go back to the default password but it didn’t. I should get my new one sometime this week.

Sorry but there are ertain things people just need to remember.
Or, certain things people need to be more careful with when they make changes.

I reset the network and now Wi-Fi Inspector is showing this…screenshot

Does that mean you are not going to use another AV :-\

I would never use another AV…

My guess as to why smart scan doesn’t show anything is that it does just a quick check while the wifi one is more in depth. As for what was vulnerable no one would have a clue if you arent able to access the router because of not knowing the password.

Read reply 7. I will be getting a new router one day this week so the password will be default.

Glad you’re back. :slight_smile:

Thank you. I never left. :slight_smile:

Hi -midnight,

Throw that Arris router out onto the lawn, it is a garbage product, and let your dog go and play with it. :wink:

With Arris you have a backdoor in the backdoor.

What if the port is secure and they come and enter your house through the balcony?
You sure need that avator dog then to grow a bit nastier to keep hackers out. ;D

Read about why Arris is not the wifi router you should use:
https://w00tsec.blogspot.nl/2015/11/arris-cable-modem-has-backdoor-in.html

That was then in 2015 and they haven’t produced them very more secure since!

The only sensible thing you did is go against the advice to set a password as ARRIS password of the day is a remote backdoor known since 2009. So you unwillingly know more about security than others are willing to admit,

Hi polonus,

Thank you for posting that link. I didn’t know the Arris router had a backdoor in the backdoor. I should get my new Arris router today. What router should I use?

After I reset my network yesterday it showed my connection was public so I called Comcast, talked to a tech support person, told him my connection was showing public and told him I wanted it to be private. He told me there was nothing to worry about and that he couldn’t see my Internet. Once again I told him I wanted a private connection he then told me to call Microsoft, which I didn’t and somehow I got my connection set to private. Some of these Comcast techs are dumber than me.

What router should I use?
Asus with built in TrendMicro AiProtection

@Pondus,

The Asus router looks like a safer one than my Arris. I’m not sure whether or not Comcast will let me use a different router but will call them today.

Thank you for posting the link/links.

Is their a bug in the Wi-Fi Inspector? I’ve ran several scans today and some scans show no issues, then I run another scan and it shows an issue.

I would appreciate any reply’s.

Thank you.

Have a new router so now everything is green…no issues.
