SMS ALTERNATIVE if no texting??

I choose not to text. I have 2 Androids on AT&T, with no texting plan. The only SMS messages are inbound, from AT&T administration.

Is there ANY way to use email for Anti-Theft alerts? I use K-9 & Gmail on each phone [1 push, 1 not]. Or any other ideas?

If I can only use SMS, I’d have to pay $360/yr just to make Avast work. That would hurt.

I’m afraid on Avast’s side, no other solution. I’m on iOS so I can’t really help, but well, Apple phones don’t need SMS to remotely locate/message/lock/wipe an iPhone so, that goes for iPad/iPod too , this is done from a web site.

There will be a web interface in the future.

Thanks. I won’t ask the silly question of when it will be available, but I will ask this:

How will it work? By that I mean how will the web interface get its signal through to the phone? Will the phone only receive commands when a mobile browser is activated? Will it matter which browser?

How will the phone SEND info, like a new sim card alert, if the browsers are off? Etc…

Thanks again.

Hi,

I’m not quire sure we can disclose any technologies behind this, but as far as I know no mobile browser will be required.

I have the same issue as user(s) above. I have texting disabled on my cell plan. I do have texting ability through Google Voice though. Ideally, sending an email via Gmail would be my first choice for finding/locking/wiping/etc. my android phone - 2nd choice would be using Google Voice Texting option.

Hi,

I don’t think the gmail app is open to developers so I’m afraid we can’t use that. Google Voice is a similar matter. There will be a web interface from which you will be able to perform the tasks.
