SMTP server blocked

I have issues with sending email from outlook express.
I am using Avast Free on a Vista laptop. All software is up do date.

I have contacted my ISP who report there have been issues with Avast blocking SMTP mail servers. They also asked me to reveal my AV software to them. I have not done this, but have disabled the SMTP mail virus checker from the Avast control panel & all mail immediately sent.

Is this a known common issue or is it restricted to certain ISP’s
