When I was trying to email a virus to alwil that avast had caught i kept on getting a message that said i couldn’t and that i needed to go fill out a form in the settings so i did and i still couldn’t send it what am i doing wrong?
Is it one that was detected by avast there is no need to send it.
Otherwise, you need to have setup which SMTP account it will use.
You can do it outside of avast.
If you believe you have an undetected virus, then if you can zip and password protect (‘virus’, will do) the suspect file and send it to virus @ avast.com (no spaces).
Give a brief outline of the problem, the fact that you believe it to be a new virus and include the password in the body of the email. Some info on the avast version and VPS number (see about avast {right click avast icon}) will also help.
Did you uncheck the scanning of smtp (outbound) mail?
If not, it won’t be allowed to send (spreding the virus).
The only place you can send safely a virus is from avast chest to Alwil for analysis.
Otherwise, you should uncheck the smtp scanning into avast! settings.
After sending it, you can disable it.
Or, you can, zip passworded this file, etc.
