so confused...avast detected 2 viruses on my pc what do I do?

Hi,

So it found this viruses…it tells me to move them to chest. Now what? Is avast able to remove/fix problems or is this program
only good to prevent/block viruses/spy wear?

FYI, I’m a stay at home mom no idea what I’m doing! Please any help will be helpful, thanks Marta.

The Chest is a quarantine file where suspected malware is safely isolated and harmless.

This is the best option to choose when avast! detects a virus or spyware file. You can safely leave the file in the Chest.

Yes, avast! is able to remove infections as well as block them.

A lot of infections are due to out of date and insecure software. I’d recommend scanning with Secunia Online Software Inspector (OSI) and updating any vulnerable software: this will help to prevent future infections.

You have done the right thing, ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.

There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.

What is the malware name, the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashLogV.exe
