I am using Avast free, decided to try Avast Pro Antivirus, downloaded the free trial, checked it out. Sandbox and Safezone basically are no use to me. In the past when I had them they were buggy and didn’t work properly, they worked ok tonight but I didn’t have much faith in them working properly in the future. So uninstalled, thought seeing that I have no antivirus installed now may as well try out some different anti virus programs.
Tried Bitdefender, installed ok, did not like, just seemed weird or too different compared to Avast.
Tried Kaspersky, would not install, tried 3 times.
Tried Eset Nod, installed ok, worked fine, but did not like the GUI.
In my humble opinion the people who complain about Avast’s GUI need to try other companies products. Maybe its a familiarity thing but Avast’s GUI is heads above Eset’s or Bitdefenders.
So I’m back to Avast anitvirus free, has caused me no problems, works well on my computer and why change for the sake of change.
I finally tried Bitdefender out myself, actually installed when I had tried months ago it wanted me to uninstall Malwarebytes before I could. GUI is very basic and also options as well though it used a lot more ram that avast did so wasnt impressed with that.
Only other AV I would use other than Avast would be Panda, even though most of its functions rely on the cloud it has good detection rates.
I havent really tried out any others, I had liked comodo when it was back in v3(maybe 4) but havent been too impressed with later versions.
I really like the GUI of the one that you mentioned you didn’t like. In it, general tasks and settings, etc. are not 2 and 3 layers deep and is without the redundancy I have found in the avast GUI. I hope avast improves on this.
Nah, it’s because you are in your comfort zone. I’ve tried all of the above and a whole pile more in the past few months. Avira, Bitdefender, and Webroot had the minimum system impact on my 4 year old Dell Vostro laptop. Avast is not far behind, apart from v8 which was terrible. Also best not to install the Avast toolbar and a few other things.
I am still with Avast IS mainly because it has more features that I need such as Safezone for banking as well as Secureline VPN which I use especially when travelling on business connecting to airport and hotel WiFis. I tried seperate VPNs with the other AVs but came to the conclusion that I prefer to have a VPN integrated into my security product for a smoother and possibly safer co-existence.
Your probably correct, I have a huge comfort zone with Avast, whenever I try something new usually doesn’t last long, always go back to whats in my sig. Only other product I like that works well in combination with what I have in Online Armour Firewall, but I figure Windows firewall in combination with a router firewall is good enough.
Only if it’s a NAT router. A NAT router has a built-in hardware firewall while a LAN router does not.
I have a LAN router so I prefer a stronger firewall with HIPS than Windows Firewall.
I don’t really mind Kapsersky GUI but I still think Avast one is better overall, I tried bitdefender and couldn’t get use to overall product in general. I also find Kaspersky not to be that lightweight
