So many False positives

Since v 8.0.1489 my 2 applications that i have been running for year have indicated virus Win 32 evo-gen[susp]

This is not acceptable as I have now had to add all my application to the exclude list. Please fix the update so at to not find things that do not exist

Not supplying any information about what was detected doesn’t help at all, you can report the detection as a false positive via the avast chest so that avast can check and if safe the exclusion will be added.

wow! Avast free which I installed yesterday on my new Win 8 laptop found fsviewer.exe (FastStone Image viewer, one of my very few applications as yet installed) as a threat and, if I well remember, with the same kind of virus. Not a very good start in favour of Avast while evaluating it

As advised above you can send the detection to avast, you can also scan the exe file at virus total for a second opinion.

the latest years, avast recognizes more and more keygens as “trojan.gen” or something similar which were not recognized before for many years and are safe for 99.99% (checked at virustotal.com).
i guess for keygens this is voulantary.

Keygens are completely different from legitimate programs and have no reference to this subject at all.

Avast suddenly started warning about RunIt and SuperKeys and not allowing SuperKeys to run. This started yesterday.

If you know it’s safe just add it to your exclusions.

Don’t simply add it to the exclusions, submit to avast for analysis and correction of the signature.
avastUI > Help > Feedback - Report Files To The avast! Virus Labs - Submit to virus lab…

Or submit from the virus chest if that is where they are now.

Well, they’re in Exclusions now but I’ve been using Superkeys for years - yes, the .dll can be used as a keyboard logger (anything can be used for nefarious purposes) and earlier versions of Avast needed the exclusion. 2014 just accepted until the other day.
RunIt is just a programme launcher and Avast had never flagged it before.

What was avast giving as the malware name including any suffix, e.g. PUP, etc. ?

Programs with a dual purpose (possible to be used for good or evil) could well be misused and could trigger a suspicious flag/alert.

With enhanced heuristics and Reputation checking it is entirely possible to have old programs pinged as they now wont get a high rating in the file reputation checks.

This is why it is important to report such files so that signatures can be updated, that not only helps you but other avast users who might well be using it too.

Agreed 100%
Helps all of us.
