'Software protec 2009" virus...i'm hyperventilating.

i’m clueless in many respects, so please bear with me.

I’m running XP SP2, with the trial version of Avast Pro. Today I started getting popups that won’t go away and don’t show up in Task manager for a BS “product” called Software protect 2009.

i did not click on any of the windows, but it started pretending to scan stuff regardless.

i disconnected from the internet, and ran a thorough scan with Avast. It said I had zero infected files, but showed three files in the problem window anyway.

I then rebooted…and got the Big Ugly Warning message suggesting i send the problem file to the Chest. Which i did.

i then rebooted again…and still have the popups AND the Avast warning message.

help. i am freaking out.

you start, and hopefully end, by using Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, available
from www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php . There is a FREE Version available .
