Software Update

The Avast Software Update keeps giving me an alert to update Java Runtime Environment. I have done so and am on version 7.xxx. The alert is for version 6.xxx. See the attached jpeg for the alert that I am getting. My guess is that I should simply delete Java version 6 from my laptop (running Windows 7)via the control panel, or just hit ignore program in the Software Update for Java version 6.xxx. Is either of these the right way to proceed? Which is preferred? By the way, I really like the Software Update feature. Thanks.

Same issue here. Have just been ignoring this until now.

Ensure that you still haven’t also got JAVA 6 installed.

You should also consider removing JAVA completely, it isn’t a required installation. Unless there is an application or website that uses JAVA and you absolutely have to use them, otherwise you would be better off uninstalling JAVA completely as it is a huge malware target for exploits.

Do you use a 64bit Version of Windows 7?
Please resize the Avast! Window to show the text into the brackets.
I wouldn’t wonder if you can read ‘64 bit’ in the brackets of Java 6.
If Java 6 is the Java 64bit Version you have to update this version. Make sure you use a 64 bit browser when you surf to java.com.

Thanks for the responses. I deleted Java 6. That took care of the problem.

You’re welcome, though I would consider if you need JAVA 7 also, if not removal is something you should consider.
