For some reason the Software Updater keeps telling me on a regular basis that Flash Player Plug-in needs to be updated.
OK…I update it via the “Update” button. It goes through and by all indications the plug-in update is successful. I refresh the updater and it still shows that the plug-in needs to be updated.
Two days later and the pop-up indicates that Flash Player Plug-in needs to be updated again.
Am I missing something? I searched the forum, and the results turned up nothing.
Anybody have any advice. Maybe just ignore the update?
Thanks.
Adobe Shockwave Flash player version is at 12.0.0.70 currently. Note that Firefox and such use the plug-in version, while Internet Explorer uses the ActiveX version. It’s possible that only one of these has been updated, while both are installed.
Google Chrome uses it’s own built-in version of Flash which is updated by Chrome itself.
Hi ups4,
As John has said, Internet Explorer requires the active X version of the update and you are advised to get it. When you run Software Updater again, agree to get the update and when you get the Adobe update page, select the the Internet Explorer browser version (you will see on the left hand side of the window that there are two options - one is for browsers other than Internet Explorer and the other is for Internet Explorer so select the latter).
As Kesetyan stated, the ActiveX version also needs to be updated. Even though you may not use Internet Explorer directly, it is used by the OS and quite possibly it’s functions are used by other programs that interact with the web. This would leave you vulnerable to attack by that vector.
