Software Updater Hangs On Installing New Version Of Java - ISSUE RESOLVED

Avast free 2014 9.0.2018

I got a pop up saying there was a critical update for Java Runtime Environment 7 (32 bit) new version: 7.0.600.19.
I clicked ‘update’ for the software updater to install it, but the updater is hung on “preparing”.

I reset the database (like you suggested in another post), (open avast! → Settings → Tools → Software Updater Customize → Reset database now), but this did NOT work.

any other suggestions?

TIA!

edit: i should mention that i had this same issue a few weeks back with the update of Flash Player ActiveX (which finally resolved itself).

I had this problem also - I wound up restarting my computer and installing the new version of Java from Oracle’s Java site.

excellent suggestion.
i went to oracle.com to download newest version ( which is JRE 8 ).
the avast software updater shows JRE8 as being up to date…but oddly it also shows JRE7 as still ‘preparing’.

the oracle site had a tool to check for & uninstall ‘older versions’. when used, tool told me there are no older versions, so i thought all was good.
i even went to control panel to manually uninstall version 7 (and version 7 was not there).

so i’m wondering why it still shows up in the avast software updater tool???

Edit: Issue Resolved. Version 7 no longer shows up in avast software updater tool. (only version 8 shows)
i hit refresh several times earlier and version 7 was still there.
this time when i hit refresh it was gone.

thanks for your help, blalonde!
