Software Updater lagging updates

Software updater is a great utility within Avast. It does lag on one update however - Chrome browser. Avast tells me it needs an update but when I go to chrome online it tells me it has the latest version. No big deal - just thought I’d mention it.

It’s doing the same thing with my Java, saying I need it updated (and the situation is “CRITICAL!”; but Java says I have the latest version. This is annoying because I get popups to that effect regularly. I do like the updater and would not want to uninstall it, though.

Can’t say anything about Chrome since I don’t have it installed, but Trilby may check this out for his Java warning:

Thanks, iroc. I did check this out. My system is different because I have a slow (dialup) connection on XP, so I have to download whatever the Windows Offline choice in Java gives me. Right now it’s V. 7 Update 25 (build 1.7.0_25-b16). This is my only way to get updates that will install. I found this out through hours of frustrated researching online. I will likely just put up with the faulty Avast notices, which do help me remember to check for updates.

One thing I keep learning and sometime it will stick: not to get updates through the software updater, which never end up working.

You are welcome; However, I recommend to install Java 7 Update 25-b17. We do not know if it was a Java mistake with the built # or there was a small update. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Downloading from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html will give you build 17.
