Software Updater Offers To Install Google Chrome

Hello.

Most of the programs listed in Software Updater have a ‘Ignore Updates’ beside them so that the program can be added to the Ignore Software list.

However, Google Chrome only has an install option.

I do not want to install this browser so how can it be ignored and added to the ignore software list?.

I’m not showing Google Chrome as an Software Updater option at all in AIS.

If you ignore the entry, Google Chrome will remain uninstalled as long as you do not manually start the install yourself.

I find Software Updater to be useful in keeping programs monitored by avast up to date, often only delaying an update by two or three days over the original vendor’s original update. It works.

Mchain:

Google Chrome is NOT already installed .

To be clear, at the top of the page, it states 'Good job, all your software is up to date.

Below that, it states ‘Avast recommends Google Chrome, a free, safe web browser.’ There is an option to make Google Chrome my default browser and a box to install it but ‘NO’ Ignore option.

Below that is my ‘Ignored Software’ list and my ‘Up To Date Software’ list.

I realize that installing Google Chrome is not mandatory but I do not want it at the top of the list. It seems that the only way to ‘remove’ it from the top is to install it, which I do not want to do.

Understood, GC is NOT installed:

You can remove the software updater component from avast, OR,

  • Change Privacy Settings from default where all boxes are ticked
  • Disable Software Updater

The order or position of a particular program appears to be alphabetical in software updater and cannot be changed afaik.

[EDIT:] Avast is advertising for the use/install of Google Chrome. Feel free to ignore the advertising.

Sighs-You still are not understanding me so leave it for someone else to answer.

I do NOT want to remove the Software Updater component!

I am asking HOW to place the ‘Google Chrome’ offering in the ‘Ignore Software’ list.

Does anyone know what I am referring to?

I’m not using Chrome but it should be the same as this product.
Just scroll down till you find Chrome and select Ignore Updates.

Bob:

Google Chrome is not listed under ‘Outdated Software.’

The program is not installed on my computer so Software Updater has suggested that I install it.

I do not want to use this browser but it cannot be ‘ignored’ since it is not an update to an existing installed program.

I am asking how I can ‘remove’ the offering from the list so that it is not installed accidentally.

Bob’s suggestion would only apply if you had actually installed Chrome.

However, I can recall the Software Updater having a recommendation above above the other out of date software (and Install was the only option) requiring update. I just ignored it and I haven’t seen it since.

A screenshot would be helpful. Your describing a suggestion or request to install not
an update notification.

DavidR understands what I am referring to.

Software Updater has a Google Chrome recommendation, with an ‘install’ link, above the ‘Out of Date Software’ list but no ‘ignore’ option link beside it.

The exact wording is ‘Avast recommends Google Chrome, a free, safe web browser’ with the ‘install’ link beside it and a ‘Make Google Chrome my default browser’ option below it.

The ‘Ignore updates’ link only appears next to ‘out of date’ software. Google Chrome is not out of date because it has not even been installed.

How do I remove it from the list (so that it does not keep reminding me to install it)?

I completely understand as I am also struck by the fact it “can’t be placed into ignored”
One has to simply disregard OR Install :-\

Yes, you understand what I am referring to!
