When I run the software updater, the list of software is empty: just a blank screen. It used to work fine and I used the updater regularly, but has stopped working in the last few weeks. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Avast, but to no effect.
This is happening on only one of my Windows computers, namely an HP Elitebook 820 G3. It works fine on other computers, which includes another HP, a Dell and an Acer.
I tried this, but it didn’t work. I followed the uninstall instructions to the letter, re-installed Avast, then tried to run the software installer. The s/w list was empty, as before. I tried a restart, but to no avail.
How does Avast compile the list of s/w it’s looking to update? If this is dynamic, then it’s not working. If it’s static, then it seems to have lost the list. Is there something I can do to make it recompile from scratch?
