[Solved] Avast 7 - UI Font Size, over all UI size.

Hello and greeting.
List of any needed spec I see relevant to my problem, please ask for more if needed.

Avast Free - 7.0.1407
Windows XP Home
Screen Resolution, 1920 by 1080
Normal size 96 DPI

I have noticed that with my resolution the Avast UI is nearly unreadable, the font size if for the most part much to small.

I have also already adjusted my Clear Type settings, as well as tried a higher DPI setting and a few other font and UI size tweaks.

I am searching for a way to change the over all UI font size within Avast, or the over all Avast UI size, as either would fix my issue.

My level of technical skill is within the area of expert, or fairly advanced. Only stating this to inform any responders that I am not a novice, and will be able to follow any and most all instruction presented.

Hate to bump my own post :cry: any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
I will most likely be placing a call to the Avast support line in hopes that they might have a solution for myself.

I cant think of anything off hand…Avast! itself has always been very configurable, but the UI has been the stark exception to that.

Will you please attach a screenshot of the GUI please? I’m just curious to see what your GUI looks like.

Mind I have a custom widows theme but that should not have any effect here, also I have blurred the quick launch icons for the fun of it but computer savvy users could guess them I am sure :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: Though it looks alright, the size it still far to small for comfortable reading in my opinion.

Are you sure your DPI is set correctly as iv got 1920 by 1080 res at 96DPI standard and my text on the UI is much bigger than yours

Is 1920 by 1080 your default resolution? To me, this would make everything hard to read. Not just avast. If it were me, I’d be decreasing my resolution. Or increasing dpi. You sure that custom windows theme isn’t causing this?

Yes that is my default resolution, with adjusted clear type all other screen text is just fine at this resolution, only the Avast GUI which doesn’t seem to utilize the clear type is the issue.

Also toggled the theme on and off before, but I am fairly sure the theme has no effect here :frowning:

EDIT: It would seem your image dose look much clearer and far more readable on my screen when compared to my Avast UI, will look further in to this, any other setting my might have tuned or tweaked that might also be effecting this? Just investigating every thing :slight_smile:

No tweaks, there all default and the pic i posted is the actual size on my 17inch laptop

I can remember reading somewhere before that custom themes mess with the avast UI so try a default theme and see what happens.

Have tried the theme, and has no effect here, still have a smaller UI, will be looking through all my setting, giving them all a once on and off to check.

I once had windows update install a driver that was incompatible with my video card. Made my screen almost unreadable. Kind of a pain in the rear when a person is not aware of what happened.

Ahh yea :wink: now trying some Catalyst tweaking, as its an ATI card but still not having any luck.

Other than using the default screen resolution that your screen’s manufacturer recommends (and it might happen that any other screen resolution won’t be clear enough, so double check which is the “right” one), please take a look at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=93880.msg747540#msg747540. It affects all Windows (not just avast), but at least might give you a clue which is the setting that is “different” in your system.

I am on the same screen resolution and have no problems with reading the avast! GUI , it is crisp and clear.

Very odd, I have yet to figure out why it is so small, this is a fairly fresh windows install, only three days old now, I now assume it is one of the many customizations I put in place, a bit of a tweak freak with my OS’s.
I will be trying to undo them one in batches, with no luck might have to do another fresh install and tweak tell I find the cause :slight_smile:

Ahh I had already check all those settings, I can set them higher but, as you said it effect all of windows, and as far as I can see only the Avast UI is small then should be, with some further looking it would seem that it thinks it is in a smaller resolution screen?
Odd as I said might be a funky tweak of mine, will report back with any thing :slight_smile:
