[SOLVED] Cannot login from Avast Client and register free license

Hi,

Since last night (feb 21, 2019), I cannot login my avast client. The error message is “Sorry, we’ve run into a problem. Please try again later”. I can login fine from browser (vivaldi).

I’m trying to extend my free avast license which is due 10 days from now. Before the login problem, while I can login, the license status says the above error message. Only if I logout do I see the notification that my license will expire in 10 days.

I’m on Windows 10 LTSB 1607 64 bit. I tried to disable the firewall, but problem persists. How can I resolve the problem?

I managed to login to my account using the client, somehow…

I’ve done everything described in your link, even before I 1st post in this thread. Then did it again before posting this. The result is the same, “Sorry, something went wrong… Try Again”. I attached a screenshot of it below.

Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

That seems to work. Thanks.
I didn’t have a prompt to reboot, but I reboot it anyway. Note that I also disable the firewall during the process. On that note, I’m behind a firewall. What processes / ports should be unblocked for avast to function properly?

You’re welcome.

Out of the box, Avast should update properly. Don’t change/block things just because one does not know what a process or file does, especially if it is an Avast digitally signed file.

Hi,

I still having problems with extending / activating avast free license. Before, the “My Licenses” menu item can’t seem to find my license if I logged in with the client. That’s resolved by using “Settings / Troubleshooting / Repair App”.

Now, every time the expiration notification appear, I clicked extend, the free option is greyed out. Trying the activate button in the bottom left, while I can select the free option, immediately after selecting it Avast is down (see attachment for screenshot). After restarting it, there’s no update to my licenses, it still expiring.

How can I resolve the problem? Can I instead get a free activation code by other means (email) cos I see in the “My Licenses” menu there’s an option to manually enter a license.

Thanks

Addendum:
There is a another slight problem. Ever since I updated Firefox to the latest version, I can’t browse with it unless I turn off the Web Shield. Firefox complains about unsecured website, even Google. I have other browsers already installed, and now I’m using Brave & Vivaldi, which runs fine. I also run downloaders & stand alone RSS viewer, which runs fine. Only Firefox is the problem. Is this problem has something to do with I can’t extend my free license?

Hi, see Reply #6 from mchain.

Hmm, firewall again.

I finally able to register avast after I totally disable the firewall. Strange, cos I did just that, as well as turned off the web shield before my post about Avast going down, and it fails. But after your post, disabling the firewall works.

I’m starting to think that your posting somehow solve my problems. The same solution seemingly not to work before your post. Magic…??? ;D

Either way, thanks

I’m not aware of any magic in my posts, but you’re welcome. 8)
