E - Set 2011 seems to be a well known virus/massive scam so I was quite surprised that Avast! didn’t flag it up or block it on my brother’s computer. It spams you with fake virus messages and blocks valid applications like task manager.
After using advice from here: " http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-e-set-antivirus-2011 ", I was able to remove all of it but one file residing in the system32 folder, called “msiexecs.exe”. It persistently blocks any attempt to delete or rename it, and various shredding programs do not work on it all saying something about not having the correct permissions.
To remove files and shred I have used “Spybot Search & Destroy” and “Malware Bytes Anti-Malware”, I also manually removed files and all related registry keys with “RegEdit”.
Basically I need help removing “msiexecs.exe” from the system (also a little heads-up for the Avast team to block the damn thing!). The laptop is a HP Pavillion running Vista 32-bit Service pack 2, any help is greatly appreciated and quick help even more so; its late and I don’t want to give the virus a chance by restarting the PC.
Start>run>type Msconfig>Startup>check for the process,if it is there uncheck and click apply!
Its not actually under there (I forgot to mention I’d done that), it no longer appears on that list but the file is still there if you look for it in the system32 folder. Is it possible for it to start itself without being on the startup list?

I don’t know if there is a better way to post this so I apologise in advance for the length. Note that I have Malwarebytes running deliberately doing a scan, no idea what media player is doing running.

Is that the full log?I feel that something is missing.
If this is the full log please follow this guide http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 and post the OTS log.
About Media,check this out. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/what-are-wmpnscfgexe-and-wmpnetwkexe-and-why-are-they-running/
I hit ‘Ctrl + A’ then ‘Ctrl + C’ so I’m pretty sure its the full thing. Dang! I forgot to mention I am running safemode at the moment (typing this on another PC), sorry its late so its hard to remember things.
I’ll run the OTS thing tomorrow, I accidently restarted the PC when Malwarebytes finished the scan and I don’t know the logon password, my brother is now asleep and he is only one who knows it.
Thanks very much for your help so far.
F and N section are missing from yourf hijackthis log, anyway.
I’m 99% sure I’ve got rid of it all now, I changed the permissions and made myself the owner of the troublesome file and deleted it.
I’ve attached another Hijackthis log (I only just discovered how to attach things to here!) if you wouldn’t mind giving it a look over, it doesn’t look any longer than last time though. Like I said I’m certain the problem is fixed, so thank you very much for the help I’ll mark this as solved.
Edit: I don’t know if I can mark it as solved? Don’t know how. Anyway it is solved…
