SOLVED - Enabling internet links from emails to be opened

Hi

Perhaps someone could help me with the above issue. Since I followed the instructions to turn off the SSL thing on my email account (as Avast will scan my emails instead) I cannot access links to the internet from my emails. This is really inconvenient for things like Facebook etc. Is there any way to get round this?

Thank you in advance for any help and time you can give for this predicament

what mail client do you use?

It isn’t your email client that is the problem but your browser, if you have uninstalled a browser recently it may have been the default to open links in emails. Open your default browser and check to see if it is set as the default browser.

I’m using Outlook 7 as when reloaded windows few months back couldn’t get help configuring Thinderbird which I previously had. I have removed Google Chrome that was downloaded at same time as Avast as I don’t use it and just takes up space. Does this help to further diagnose the issue?

I suspect that in removing chrome it will probably have set itself as the default browser, so its removal has effectively left the browser to use for these links hanging in the wind.

As I said you will need to open the browser you use now as your default browser and check if it is the default and have it set to default if not.

For Internet Explorer get help here:

For Firefox get help here:

For Chrome get help here:

For Opera get help here:

For Safari it’s a bit more difficult but can also be done:

Reboot your computer after you’ve made the suggested changes.
Hope that takes care of your problem.

Thanks Bob I will bookmark that post.

Since I’ve seen the problem more than once, I thought this might be helpful and worth putting together.

Thank you for this. Have followed link you provided so hopefully that will help as in Internet Options all it has is that Internet Explorer is not my default website (Firefox is) x

You’re welcome. Please let us know if this solved your problem or if you need additional help.

Bums that hasn’t worked. The message I am getting is ‘this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator’ :frowning:

Are you doing this under Administrator or another user?

Possibly an easier method in Windows 7 if the OP is using that - Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Default Programs.

Though I’m not sure if this would require Admin privileges as SafeSurf mentioned for the other method of changing it.

Yes I am the administrator and I changed the default program the way that was suggested before. What now? :frowning:

Oh it’s worked  Hadn’t tried it today. Obviously needed a restart to take effect. Thank you so so much you guys x

Glad to hear that.
