[Solved] Gadgets disappear from desktop when performing program update

As the thread title says, everytime I want to manually perform an “program update” (I select this option always to update my definitions), my gadgets disappear from desktop and I have to reenable them. This does not happen when I try to to perform an ‘Engine and virus definitons update’

I’m runing Avast! Free 6.0.1367 (latest version) on Windows 7 Professional SP1 x86
Also, I mention that I don’t have the Avast! gadget installed.

EDIT: The bug was fixed in 7.0.1426 version.

UPDATE: This bug is still present in the latest 7.0 build (7.0.1414).

Confirmed happening with latest 7.0.1414 version

As soon as the update process gets to “Mail Shield”, sidebar.exe closes without giving any error. I do not even have the “Mail Shield” installed.

I think this bug was introduced in version 5.0, lasted so long until 7.0, and I don’t know if Avast! developers are aware of it.

I hope you will look at this thread and fix this in the upcoming version.

BUMP!

As after any program update you should reboot your system then the sidebar starts again.

Absolutly no problem on my Windows 7 system running v7.0.1414

You’re right, BUT…:

  • …what if there’s no program update, just virus definion updates, or maybe no updates at all (just check to see IF there are any updates).
  • …what if I don’t want to reboot my system right after a program update, and I do it manually later?
  • …you can restart sidebar manually yourself, you don’t have to restart

The fact is that the bug is present, and sidebar shouldn’t be closed by Avast!

Sorry yes this is a confirmed bug. It should be fixed in the next program update.
BTW it only happens if the avast gadget is not installed.

Thanks

Thanks for answering Vlk.

I didn’t check with the Avast! Gadget installed, but this explains why YoKenny has no problem with sidebar

Please, if you’re still online, be kind and look at this thread also, because I have some problems with Avast! if I use a proxy internet connection:

I do not use a proxy internet connection so can not help here.

YoKenny, that was for Vlk  Sory about the confusion. I will repost that thread in the beta section, maybe it will have a chance to be seen by one of the devs.
