I’ve just updated my installation of Avast Free to the very latest version and now Outlook 2003 crashes when I try to close it.
I’ve uninstalled Avast and Outlook then behaves normally and does not crash on exit. As soon as I reinstall Avast then the problem returns.
I couldn’t see any other forum posts from anyone with the same problem so maybe there is a problem that’s not been spotted yet.
Does anyone know of any issues with this latest release of Avast and if so what the problem might be or how to fix the issue ? I suppose I could just roll back to a previous version of Avast but it will keep nagging me to upgrade all the time.

I am not aware of any issue with Outlook as you have described it. ???
I also use Outlook 2003 with AIS for a long time and no issue here. If I experienced this problem with AIS, I would start by disabbling the ‘mail’ shield.
Possibly someone else may have experienced this behavior and resolved it. :-\
Thanks for your reply. I’ve just upgraded avast on my other two machines all running Outlook 2003 and they both now have the issue too. Outlook crashes on exit when Avast has the mail shield enabled so I’m not sure what to do now.
Rolling back to a previous version of Avast also fixes the issue. So, I’m currently using an old version of Avast and trying to put up with the upgrade popups that I’m frequently getting
I just wanted to say that I decided to try the new update (7.0.1474) and it’s fixed the error that I was having which meant Outlook 2003 crashed on exit.
I’ve tried it on my other machines that I have and the crash appears to have been fixed on those also.
Thanks Avast for fixing this as I have now been able to upgrade to the latest version.
