(Solved) VDF update problem

Are there any problems with Avast update server?
I’m using my computer and connected to the internet almost as a daily routine. I’ve noticed that sometimes my Avast definitions been outdated for two or three days in this past 3 weeks. Today I checked my Avast definitions and find it being outdated for 5 days (my current definitions is 110819-1).

Forcing it to update manually just initializing the update with no download or upload activity whatsoever.

What custom rules do you have in the windows firewall that might impact on the avast.setup (the update function) connection ?

What errors are you getting ?

Try changing the avastUI, Settings, Update, Proxy settings, Direct connection (no proxy).

I haven’t change my firewall rules in this past 3 or 4 months. So I doubt there’s anything in it that might hindering avast ability to update and connected to internet.

I already setting it to direct connection from the beginning, and I checked the “I only connect to the internet using a dial up modem” in the Update Parameters checkbox. I’m experiencing no problem in update with this settings before.

There’s no errors. It’s just won’t auto update and forcing it to manually update just initializing the update with no upload or download activity.

Whist you may not have changed any rules, I have seen stranger things happen in 3rd party firewalls, e.g. apparent digital amnesia, were a program which has previously been allowed is suddenly blocked.

Which is why I asked if you had a rule/s for avast.setup, if so I would try deleting it and try to do a manual update again and see what the outcome is.

  • Try a repair of avast:
Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You may need to reboot after the repair.

I already ease up my rule for all avast application and try the manual update again to no avail. It’s still the same.

I’ll try it again after rebooting my computer once or twice, though I can’t do it now since I still have things to do. If after a few attempt it still unable to update then I’ll repair the installation (though I really hate to do this, since it will reset all the Avast setting changes I’ve made).

Really, I hope Avast adding a feature which let user to export and import Avast settings in the future Avast program update.

I am having the same problem, have not been able to update auto. or manual

Set avast! to: Direct Connection (No Proxy)

I set the program to direct connection but it made no difference, this problem occurs on a Laptop Running Windows 7 Home Premium & also a Desktop running XP

Other security related software installed…?

I have Online Armour Firewall & also Super Antispyware Pro but no problems occured until 24/8/11

Which avast…?
Which version…?
OS…?

Avast Pro 6.0.1203
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Install this: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1270/setup_av_pro.exe
Does it work now…?

Do I install over the previous version.

Yes.

I did as you suggested but it has made no difference the program will not update

Download and run this: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/vpsupd.exe

The link you suggested only updates earlier versions it will not update 6.01207

Ok, clean all avast! related entries in your firewall.
And let OA rebuild them afterwards.

After cleaning the entries in Online Armour Avast has updated so the problem is fixed for now will letlyou know if it returns.
Thank you for your help
