Running XP SP2. Last week it started saying there was no anti virus program installed, even though avast is still running. I tried absolutely everything listed here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23457.15
I see the exact same 5, by name, that are listed in your screen shot (good idea btw).
The systray ball spins when I access anything, anything I download gets scanned; so as far as I can tell, Avast is running just fine.
The clock & calender are correct–just had the OS reset from the time server.
Uninstalled using the avast separate uninstall tool, rebooted & reinstalled.
Shut-down the Win security system (as described earlier) & deleted the c:\windows\system32\wbem\repository; but I keep getting the ‘No antivirus software installed’ security alert error message.
This unfortunately is a common problem in the Windows Security Center and can be a bit of a pig to resolve. Did you reboot after the deletion of the wbem\repository sub folder ?
You said earlier you tried everything so I have little to go on as I might simply be repeating something you tried. If none of the suggestions below don’t work then you are probably left with changing the WSC settings ‘Change the way Security Center alerts me’ uncheck the anti-virus option. Whilst this isn’t satisfactory it is likely to be the only way not to get constantly nagged.
Did you try this:
Windows XP SP2
Start, Run, type cmd and click OK from the command prompt type ‘rundll32 wbemupgd, RepairWMISetup’ without the quotes and enter.
Or
rundll32 wbemupgd, UpgradeRepository
Note: that the above parameters RepairWMISetup and UpgradeRepository are case-sensitive and must be typed exactly as shown):
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
I get the following error: rundll32 is not recognized as a internal or external command operable program or batch file
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
I’ve had avast for a year or so with no problem. In trying to solve this I’ve installed ClamWin, but still have the same error, so it’s obviously a windows issue! The only other reference I see is here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=29629.0;wap2
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
ClamWin being an on-demand AV shouldn’t be detected or monitored by the WSC and also shouldn’t conflict with avast.
This is most certainly a windows WSC issue and a very common one for MS to have a KB article to try and resolve it, I fear we may be at the uncheck the antivirus monitoring in WSC especially as you say you have tried absolutely everything on that Topic. Though as you have had that error that you mentioned, it might be worth while to say exactly what you tried and what results were achieved including and errors.
I don’t know why you are getting the windows error (it could indicate an underlying problem) when you try to run the command you could try running it from directly in the Run window rather than from the cmd window, that way you can also copy and paste the command rather than have to type it.
This tells me that windows live one care was installed which contains an on demand Antivirus
and this is what’s cause the conflict on your machine.
Glad you’ve got it corrected.
