some files cannot be scanned?

hi, wonder if anyone can offer me some advice here.

i have done regular scans recently with ‘no virus found’ results but the last scan i did has come up with ‘some files could not be scanned’ & when i have clicked on scan results i see that there are 23 files with the following status:

error: exception in standard viruses code (42104).

this is puzzling me so can anyone help please

thanks

I just ran a full scan and got the same error on 23 files. What does this error code mean?

???
Yes I got the same problem. I did the system scan few days ago and no problem. I scanned the full system and found lots of files ( more than 20 ) could not be scanned , the log show the same message Error: Exception standard viruses code (42104).

I recalled there might be a program updated by the Avast 5 free version recently and would it associates to its bug.

Avast staff please advise with thanks

;D
Hi, I just got a reply from the Support center, quick.! Please see below ( PS : I would suggest the Avast to rectify the issue if possible) :-*

Hello,

Thank you for contacting ALWIL Software company with your concerns.

Some files are permanently locked by operating system, some files are
in password-protected archives and so on. These files can´t be
scanned. It´s normal and you don´t need to worry about this.
Error is trying to handle a file and temporary avast files.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.

If you want you can send us the log file.

Follow all described steps below:

  1. create a custom scan
  2. use the option to generate avast! report file
  3. tick all available Reported items options
  4. run virus scan
  5. send us created report file, located under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\report

If you need further assistance, don’t hesitate to contact me again.

Best regards,
Miroslav Jenšík

I’m having the same problem without an error. Just install the FREE version on windows 7.
