Some files could not be scanned!

Hey guys,
Some files can’t be scanned on my computer and it’s always the same file… can someone help? (I hope I did post in the right board! ;D)I put the file name in the attachment.

But what is the reason given for not being scanned, that too is on the report ?

It is Outlook.ost that is the offline Outlook db, I believe.
Is your outlook running and in offline mode?

Maybe the file is corrupt? Try this:

Close Outlook.
On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open box, type

drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\LocaleID\scanost.exe

where LocaleID is the locale identifier (LCID) for your installation of Microsoft Office. For example, the LCID for English (United States) is 1033. For a list of LCIDs, see Microsoft Office Help.

Click OK.
Click either Scan all folders or Choose folder to scan. If you click Scan all folders, this may take several minutes.
Select the Repair errors check box.
Click Begin Scan.

Details of actions performed during the scan and repair are saved as a message in your Outlook Deleted Items folder with the subject “OST Integrity Check.”

If the Offline Folder file cannot be repaired, you can disable it and create a new one.

Sorry I updated the file now. I’ll reattach it now.

You have outlook up running whilst scanning?
The ost seems to be in use by outlook.
See also my post above.

drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\LocaleID\scanost.exe

I tried the file and browsed it, and that led me to System32 files. I saw a file called 1033 and a bunch of other files like advanced system installers and stuff like that.

I don’t understand… you tried what file?

What I wrote was a run command.

Close Outlook, make sure it is not running.
Go to folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033
There should be the program scanost.exe in there.
Run it.
Click OK.
Click Scan all folders, this may take several minutes.
Select the Repair errors check box.
Click Begin Scan.

Well that is a pretty legit reason why it can’t be scanned, that error is actually a windows file system error, so the file is locked and avast can’t unpack it to be scanned.

Error: The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a
portion of the file (33)

Note: it would have been easier just to copy and paste the text into the post rather than have to create a file and attach it and we don’t have to download/open it.

So essentially I wouldn’t worry about this (legit reason why it can’t be scanned), but what is the scan you were doing as in a Quick or Full System (pre-defined) scans don’t think this file would be scanned ?

If this happened whilst you were opening Outlook (?) then I believe there is a setting in the Mail Shield, Expert Settings, Behavior, to scan archived messages when opening. This is off by default did you change this ?

Hi, I have the same problem and and followed your suggestions but when I run the suggested program I get a reply “windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item”.
This is a personal computer using 64 bit ( although that shouldn’t make a difference )- I use MS exchange to sync with my Laptop and my Mobile.

It says C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033
Path does not exist.
Check the path and try again.
