Ok, first off, I installed Morpheus and it installed some “Value Added” software. I decided I didn’t want this 3rd party stuff, so I tried to uninstall it, no can do, it isn’t in the “Add/Remove Programs” menu. So I try to delete the files themselves, no can do, there’s a sharing violation as they are already running. So I delete the registry key, surely it can’t return from that… It does, and I open up regedit again and sure enough, there it is. I went on the Morpheus FAQ, it says if I want to uninstall the “Value Added Software” to click on the link for more info, I do this. This takes me to a page with more info ABOUT the 3rd party stuff, but nothing on how to remove the crud, however, there is a link, and it’s back to the FAQ!!!
If anyone could PLEASE tell me how to get this damned stuff off my computer I would be most grateful.
This 3rd party software sounds like Spyware/Adware, the same happens when you install alot of P2P programs these days.
I suggest downloading, updating then running these 2 good free programs, they are Ad-Aware
and spybot.
Also after that could you post a hijackthis log here so we can check your system is clean.
You can get hijackthis from here and this is how to use it (incase your not sure how)
True, Spyros, the processes are TBPS and TBPSSvc, and the files are in “C:\Program Files\Toolbar”.
Also, I already have Ad-Aware and it’s found nothing.
Another worry I have is that the Trojan “Generic.Downloader.c” appears at various points throughout my computer since these have arrived on my computer.
Thanx guys, the castlecops link had the answer to my problems, I just had to run a hidden file (c:\Progra~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe Uninst) which uninstalled it and that appears to be the end of the problem.
Thanx again. ;D
