Over the last three days, some Internet functions and protocols have either been very slow or not working at all when the SecureLine VPN is connected. For example, when using Microsoft Outlook 2016 for desktop, it cannot connect to the e-mail server, or takes a long time. As soon as I disconnect the VPN, Outlook is able to connect. This has happened to me once before, but interestingly with a VPN provided by a different vendor. A family member also has had this problem, with a third vendor. ??? I usually connect the VPN to the Optimal Location and I checked to make sure that it was set to my home country – it was. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Bob, and congratulations on 57 years together!
Thanks, soon to be 58. Now all we need is a reply from Avast. It’s after midnight in Prague.
Any findings or developments on this? ???
Just sent another reminder to Avast. Sorry but that’s all I can do.
Hi,
do you experience any other connection issues when connected via VPN (e.g. unstable connection, failing image loading when browsing etc.)? Can you download email messages via Outlook or you can’t receive the emails at all? Do you use encrypted connection to your email account (setting in Outlook)? It would also help to send the email provider hostname you’re using.
Some of the information above might be something you prefer not to share over this public forum. In such case please contact our support at https://support.avast.com/en-ww/contact/. Thank you
Thanks, Bob.
Hi,
Thanks for your response. This issue is something that, admittedly, is hard to pin down. The Internet connection doesn’t seem to drop completely, but I have had problems in the past with browsing some sites (perhaps SSL vs. non-SSL). I can access all my email via web apps, but in Outlook 2016, I have trouble at times connecting to the servers and downloading email. Our current email addresses are all hostname outlook.com, but we do have some older ones that are bell.net. The outlook.com addresses all connect via Microsoft Exchange and in all cases the data is encrypted between the client and server. The bell.net addresses connect via IMAP and the connections are also encrypted.
I realize that the intermittent nature of this problem makes it difficult to isolate and resolve. Thanks for your help.
