Some parts of Avast disable?????

I have just installed Avast on my computer after being advised on MajorGeeks that it is a great proggie for virus detection. My problem is that about 1 1/2 years ago, I tried out Kaspersky and I didn’t like it so I uninstalled it. When I installed my Avast earlier tonight, it detected something from Kaspesky running and said that the P2P provider, Standard Shield provider and Instant Messaging provider have been disabled due to Kaspersky Anti-Virus running. I cannot find KAV on my system anywhere and I would like to fix this so I can have those 3 providers running as I use Instant Messaging and P2P a lot. Any suggestions?

I would suggest a visit to the KAV website or forum and see if there is anything about removing KAV entries in the registry, that is likely where this conflict originates.

You could also run HiJackThis and see if there is any reference to KAV, etc. and also one of the statr-up analysis programs - I use CodeStuff’s Starter which is freeware http://CodeStuff.mirrorz.com

found in c:windows\system32\drivers a KLIF.Sys file from Kaspersky. I deleted it and re-booted. Bingo everything works.
