i ma trouble uploading files to 4shared.com if i enable web shield. the upload either will stop on beginning or doesnt start all. if i stop the web shield serivce, the uploads are running good. so far this only happens to 4shared.com uploads. any solution ?
No firewall. Rapidshare are oke. the only problem is with 4shared.com. there are no errors. but the upload wont start or will stop after few kb uploaded.
Just that WebShield (avast) does not scan upload traffic, so, it’s not avast at upload.
Maybe something (data) is downloaded, but, again, avast shouldn’t block, just scan.
Are you using Windows XP or Vista? Isn’t it firewall blocking the upload? Are you logged into an administrator account?
Well that would tend to confirm it isn’t the web shield, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to upload to rapidshare either (but as Tech says the web shield doesn’t scan outbound uploads. So there is something that is conflicting, what that is, is the 64 thousand dollar question.
What other security software do you have ?
You most certainly need a firewall as a part of your security setup even if you have a router/hardware firewall.
What know issue, it is unknown to me, care to expand ?
The only time a 0byte file has been returned to my knowledge is trying to upload a file to virustotal, etc. whilst it is in the chest (a protected area) and even then the web shield doesn’t scan uploads. Otherwise it would have alarmed on the file I have just uploaded to virustotal within the last 10 minutes.
The problem is the inconsistent results works at one upload site and not the other, if it were truly only a problem with the web shield it wouldn’t work for all uploads. Not to mention as has been previously said avast’s web shield doesn’t scan uploads.
I have just signed up for a free account at 4shared and uploaded a file with no problems. I used firefox, my default browser with the web shield enabled.
Restart Web Shield in XP (terminate and start again) or whole PC in case of Win98
Browse (trying to access some webpages and upload the files)
The log file are \data\log\ashwebsv.log and ashwebsv.ws.
They would be accessible when WebShield is terminated again.
Post them here or send by mail to rypacek (at) asw.cz
After that, disable the logging to avoid a big log file.
