Some Questions About Avast Home Edition 4.7 !

Hi Guys ,
As a converted AVG AV free user , i am now using Avast Home Edition 4.7 with ZoneAlarm 7.0 ! I have a few questions about Avast Home edition 4.7 though .

I read in a review that Avast will also detect some spyware/malware besides just viruses .

(1) Would it be ok to run a stand alone spyware scanner in conjuction with Avast ?

(2) If so what are some good free ones that are compatable with Avast ?

                                                                thanks :)
                                                                    JOEY

Hi Joey! Welcome to the avast! forums.

To answer your questions:

(1) yes

(2) You can find some good information in this thread

avast has a good spyware detection rate. But it is far from being perfect (not a software is). I suggest Spyware Terminator (if you want a resident) or AVGas as an on-demand spyware scanner. You can test, worth, SuperAntispyware and a-squared too.

Welcome!
I’m an ex-AVG too 8)

Hi Guys ,
Thanks for the warm welcome & informative replies !

One last question though .

I’ve read about the Web shield in Avast & resident shield in AVG AS .

Are they the same thing or is the Web Shield for viruses & resident shield for spyware ?

                                                                               Thanks
                                                                                     JOEY

No. WebShield scans all HTTP traffic and avoid infection even before any file is saved to your computer. It’s a provider (module) of the antivirus protection. It protects the same infections as the antivirus itself, it only does its job that is scanning Internet traffic.
AVGas resident is antispyware resident scanning (which avast does not have): Windows registry monitoring, etc.

Thanks for the info Tech !!!

                                            regards
                                                  JOEY
