Some questions about the Script Blocker provider

Hello everyone

Yesterday I finally give up SeaMonkey’s Navigator and after looking for a while I decided to download and try AvantBrowser. It was a surprise to see it’s a real mature product now so I installed it as my default browser despite having a portable FF and Opera. I like AB because it uses the same engine that IE so it should render ok every webpage and at the same time have a lot of cool things that IE lacks.

My specific question about the Script Blocker provider (or whatever it names in the english version of avast!, I have spanish one) is: do this provider work with AvantBrowser? And with Opera? and Firefox?

Sorry if this sounds stupid but when I launch IE or Outlook an avast! splash screen shows-up showing the provider is on and protecting the PC, but this DON’T HAPPEN with Firefox -not the portable version, the full installed one-, Opera or even SeaMonkey.
I wish to know if it indeed work with AvantBrowser and any of the two portable version browsers I have because in the provider menu you can set protection for IE, Netscape and Mozilla (!!) and since Mozilla Suite if officially discontinued but much of its core code is in Firefox and SeaMonkey, I think the provider must show up if it works with them.
Because AvantBrowser uses IE engine I think avast! should work with it, but I’m not sure… and as I said above even when I had Firefox 2 installed the provider splash screen never showed up.

I want to comment in this post also a little ‘glitch’ -I think- I found in the providers menu:

  1. I click on the Script Block provider, then click on “High” in the sensibility bar.
  2. If I then click “Personalizar” button (in english it could be named Custom) and then click Accept (or Ok) without making any change the sensibility bar ponter is set to “Personalizado” again (or Custom, again) DESPITE I DIDN’T DO ANY CHANGE.

Anyway, this is a very minor ‘bug’ but I’m really concerned about the provider issue: does it protect AvastBrowser, portable editions of FF2 and Opera from bad bad scrpits?

I believe it only works specifically with IE and not clones, like Avant (my secondary choice to firefox), the script blocker only works with a very limited number of browsers, IE, Mozilla (not firefox) I can’t recall the other.

If you open the Protected Programs page in the Script it lists those it does support. This is no longer as much of an issue as the web shield also provides some protection from scripts on web pages.
