Some questions on my mind that need to clarify

I have some question to clarify, please answer this:

1.) What happen to infected files moving to chest?
2.) Is there a way to seperate the virus from the file?
3.) What is the repair option on avast? Is this same as heal features in avg?
4.) What will happen if i deleted the file that moved in chest
5.) What will happen to the infected file that not deleted after moving to chest if avast was uninstalled? Should the infected file back to original location?

Thanks for future response…

1.) What happen to infected files moving to chest?
They are simply removed from the system and placed in a location (the chest) where they can do no harm to your computer
2.) Is there a way to seperate the virus from the file?
This is case specific. Avast as far as i understand has a feature that allows it to restore Key (emphasis on this word) files on your computer. So if a word file is infected, disinfection is not possible as far as I know.
3.) What is the repair option on avast? Is this same as heal features in avg?
I'm not sure how that works so I can't say.
4.) What will happen if i deleted the file that moved in ches
Once the file is moved (emphasis on this word as it should not be confuse with copy) to the chest, you won't find it in the original location. If you do find it then I believe that there is a problem since the file regenerated. I'm not sure how to further answer this question without making a lot of unfounded assumptions. Please wait for some other replies.
5.) What will happen to the infected file that not deleted after moving to chest if avast was uninstalled? Should the infected file back to original location?
I suppose your question is: What happens to the file in the chest if I delete Avast? I believe that it is removed.

Hope this answers some of your concerns

Some virus, some files. Generally, only .exe and .com files could be restored.

I don’t remember the AVG capabilities… but avast, as said before, can repair just few executable file infections.

It will remain into Chest, safely kept by avast.
If you directly delete (which is not the best action), you won’t be able to recover, restore, rescan, etc.

When moved to Chest, the original file is deleted. When avast is uninstalled, the Chest is removed also (no option to not do it).

What if i know its really a virus and ofcourse i don’t want to recover it, can i delete it? And what if I don’t know if its just a false alarm where i can query and how?

You mean should not uninstall avast when there’s still virus on a chest?

Well before deleting a file you should send it to the chest. Once you confirmed that it is a virus either via the forum or by simply uploading the file to VirusTotal you can delete it. I only had one or two alarms concerning viruses from avast so I did not have to do this too often. But if ever there is a problem I post it on the forum.

No. Tech is saying that by Un-installing Avast, you also delete the chest and its contents. It would be improper for a anti-virus to leave a chest full of viruses behind after being un-installed.

Yes.

Restore the file to a safe folder, do not execute it, but send it to www.virustotal.com

No, if it is a virus and you’re sure it is, you can remove it while uninstalling.
If you think it could be a false positive, restore it first to a safe folder before uninstalling.

If I have had a waring come up and it shows virus’s does avast take care of deleting these or do they quarantine them

Well it depends.

For instance say you are browsing the web and you go to page and avast will pop=up saying that so-and-so link is a virus. You then get two or three option, among which: Terminate connection. In this case There is no need of deletion or Sending to the chest since no virus was downloaded to begin with since avast stopped it.

A second scenario is that you get a memory stick from a friend, plug it in and click to open a folder. Before you can open the folder avast warns you there’s a virus inside. In this case nothing bad happens since avast saw something suspicious and stopped you before you could open it. Alternately when you plugged in the USB stick a virus could have tried to install its self on your computer and avast would have most likely prevented it giving you in the process the option of deleting or sending the file to the chest.

In short avast almost always gives you the option. However you should have some secondary scanners on hand to make sure your machine is clean.
For example:

Super Anti-Spyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/
and
Malware Bytes Anti-Malware
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

If it is a webpage infection, avast will just block the access to it.
If it is a file in your computer, the safer is send the file to Chest than direct deleting it, as you can further analyze the file into Chest.

I think I went on to no end with my explanation when you answered FullHTJQKA’s question in just a few lines Tech. :-[

Don’t worry… different approaches. Mine is, generally, a short one. Maybe due to English not being my native language and I have to make efforts to write on it.
