Somebody please help me.

I apparently “lost” my master password and now avast won’t let me do ANYTHING on my computer, somebody please help me. I was told to go to options > security > set master password, Mass protect/Unprotect button. I cannot find the “options” button (If this information is correct).

What avast version are you using, free/pro/ais/premier ?

The only thing password related in avast 8 free as far as I’m aware in the avastUI, Settings, Password.
If that is where you set it (?) then the only way back is to reinstall avast.

At this point, I really don’t know. I would say I’m on a trial version, I go back and forth between trial versions and free. I also cannot uninstall because that god forsaken “enter password” pops up for almost everything I do! I’m hating avast at this point…

If it is avast 8 then that is the area for password protection of avast settings, I don’t know if there might be other passwords (and a master password) if you have other products. Have you tried searching the avastUI > Support > Program Help and do a search for password or master password.

Nothing…Am I stuck with avast forever???

As I said you are looking at a reinstall to resolve this and probably best to do a clean reinstall.

  • Download the latest version of avast, 8.0.1483 whichever version it is you are using and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).

    1. Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 7.x if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Omg thank you, I’m freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :D!!!

You’re welcome.
