The rate of false positives is absolutely out of control! Somebody put a stop to this madness, for god’s sake!!!
I just download the latest opera x64, v 46.0.2597.61 and couldn’t install it because avast says it’s “filerep:malware”. OPERA IS NOT MALWARE, for god’s sake!!!
The same goes for the Freemake utilities, they’re constantly flagged as either malware or pup or whatever, AND THEY ARE NONE OF THOSE!!!
The cd ripping utility called CD-ex is another favorite victim of avast’s false positives.
Those just from the last couple of days. This has been going on for years!!! The rate of false positives is JUST UNACCEPTABLE!!!
The worse comes when something is detected as “IDP.generic”. When that happens, avast goes insane and starts deleting executables by the bucketload, SAYING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO THE USER, which CAN NOT BE RECOVERED FROM THE VAULT. Gone. Forever!

No it is not a FP.It is a Win32/FusionCore.L potentially unwanted(PUA/PUP).

Avira (no cloud):PUA/Fusion.B,ESET-NOD32:a variant of Win32/FusionCore.L potentially unwanted
and to add insult to injury, yesterday and today, I rceived two REAL viruses by email and avast just let them thru.
CDEX IS NOT A PUP!!! It’s a program I WILLINGLY DOWNLOADED.
Freemake utilities ARE NOT PUPs either.
You SHOULD REALLY TRY TO LEARN WHAT A PUP IS!!!
PUPs are bullshit toolbars, fake AVs, etc. REAL USEFUL PROGRAMS ARE NOT PUPs!!!
Oh, wait that’s your solution??? Instead of improving your product you just tell me to use a different one? yeah, right, great phillosophy!
From what I’ve experienced with Freemake programs previously they are full of PUA’s, they are one company who live of the information they collect from you.
If we check the back log of your posts, it is mostly complaints about avast, so to solve your problem i suggest trying a new AV, how is that a insult?
You SHOULD REALLY TRY TO LEARN WHAT A PUP IS!!!!
Do you know?
PUP = Possible Unwanted Program … note the word POSSIBLE
For some, like you it may be a wanted program, that does not mean that it is not or does not containe PUP
If you have problems with PUP detection, why dont you turn it OFF
PUPs are bullshit toolbars, fake AVs, etc. REAL USEFUL PROGRAMS ARE NOT PUPs!!!!!!
Many JS files are downloaders that are detected once executed. However, you can’t expect it to flag each and every file as virus.
You have always the opportunity to report these files.
Here we are 10-22-2018 and avast failed to block Cryxos JS Trojan in Firefox. Then even worse, failed to detect it after I closed the browser and ran a scan. Really disappointing. I ran a scan then with the FREE Emsisoft Emergency Kit scanner which picked it up quickly and removed it. Pretty sad performance there AVAST. Paid product, AVAST Internet Security at that. Boooooooo.
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly do I report? Avast failed to catch it, but emsisoft found and deleted it in a scan after I rebooted… It is a Fake Infection Scare with popups, locked browser and audio telling you your system is infected and your credit card numbers are being stolen and that you need to call Microsoft Support Number (100% Fake) immediately to get help.
Should I just copy the filename from the Emsisoft Emergency Kit log where it found and deleted the threat? The actual infected files were deleted by Emsisoft.
