Someone from AVAST PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi all,

Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate it.

Just to let you know I uninstalled my firewall and AVAST one after the other, I then did a clean install of my firewall and set it up the way I always have it set and then did a clean install of AVAST and AVAST updated to 25-0 I however did a manual update and my definitions were updated to 25-1.

I can safely say that after doing a few tests MY FIREWALL DOES NOT STOP AVAST from updating or anything else that AVAST needs to connect to the internet for.
So Why does AVAST do ONE automatic update and then I have to DO A MANUAL update?

I am NOT the only one that has to do manual updates of the virus definitions, I recommended AVAST to a friend and it was updating automatically till a few months ago NOW WE MANUALLY have to update it.
WE are RAPIDLY LOSING FAITH IN AVAST due to the fact we have to manually update it even though it is set to automatically update.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could someone look into this issue and resolve it, we are using AVAST FREE ANTIVIRUS 7.0.1426 and I KNOW that it IS NOT our firewalls as we can update all our other programs that need to be updated WITHOUT ANY problems.

WHY does AVAST update automatically SOMETIMES and other time NOT? NEVER had this problem With AVAST before, that is till a few months ago and I have been USING COMODO firewall with AVAST for sometime without any problems.

PLEASE could someone from AVAST look into this problem and give me feedback please?

Thank you.

did u try doing a clean install of avast using aswclear?

@ true indian,

The OP said he/she just did a clean install of Avast, so there is no need to do it again.

@ happy avast user,

What firewall are you using and is anything blocking Avast? What is your OS? What version and product of Avast are you using? Are you using or have you used other security programs on this machine in the past and if so how did you remove them?

I just saw your other thread: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100052.0. Please stick with one thread to avoid confusion.

So it appears that you are using Comodo firewall, deleted the rules for Avast in your FW but this did not resolve the problem.

Have you made both Avast and Comodo mutually exclusive (both trusted)?

Have you tried an Avast repair?
XP Users:

  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
  • Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
  • Reboot.

Vista & Win7 Users:

  • Control Panel
  • Programs & Features
  • Uninstall a Program > Select Avast Antivirus
  • Click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair
  • Click Next and follow.
  • Reboot.

Let us know if this fixes the problem. Thank you.

I honestly don’t know why you started this topic, when you already have another one on the go in which you have already replicated this post. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100052.0

Essentially those that have contributed have wasted their time and now others are likely to replicate suggestions already made or questions already asked.

Hi SafeSurf I have checked my trusted files and I can confirm that Avast and COMODO are both trusted.

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it and I am really sorry for the confusion and double posting .

Hi DavidR I am really sorry for the double posting, please forgive me, I will be careful not to double post next time and sorry if I wasted anyones time.

No problem…we all learn.
