Something is wrong with my webshield???

Hi, it looks like my webshield is not working. Any advice?
I have ZoneAlarm Free, Mozilla Firefox, W2000
ZoneAlarm - Webshield has a permition to access internet ::slight_smile:

If you’re browsing it’s not working…
Did you try to repair your avast installation?
Disable and enable WebShield again?

No i did not repair the installation i thought that it is better first to ask here…
I am browsing all the time and its not working, it didnt gave me worning that there was an virus on one website ::slight_smile:

Disable and enable WebShield again?
I will try this now..
Disable and enable WebShield again?

I did that but nothing is changed exept the time.

Am i missing something ???

Why are you sure that there was a virus if Web Shield didn’t warn you about it?

Did you try to repair your avast installation before disabling and enabling WebShield as Tech suggested?

Probably not…
When I had this trouble in the past, only uninstalling, booting, installing again, booting… solved the problem :-[
Before doing that, can you check how your avast! services are set?

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

I suppose you have to have four avast! services:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner service)

The two first of them should be Automatic loaded and the two last Manually loaded.

Did you try to repair your avast installation?

I just did repair of the installation, but its the same.

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service) C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service) C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner service) C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner service

Yes the services are here…

Here?
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
Or just the files on the folder?
The services must be running (CTRL+ALT+DEL to see).
Sometimes, only uninstalling and installing again

Hi Smith

Why are you sure that there was a virus if Web Shield didn't warn you about it?

I am sure becouse drhayden1 was on that website and he sent me a screenshot of the warning he got, and i think also one other person was there and got the same worning.I was at the website just after drhayden1 was there and i noticed that the webshield is not working, so he got back at the same website and made the screenshot of the warning and sent it to me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
they are here and its written “Started” next to them…
CTRL+ALT+DEL - didnt worked ???

Strange but Ewido micro scaner is not working too ??? ???

What are the settings in Firefox > Tools > Options > General > Connection Settings ?

Nothing is checked exept “direct connections to the internet”
If i have to do manual proxy configuration, someone will have to help me with the tutorial for firefox, becouse i cant see it :-[

Sorry… i did not realise you’re using Windows 98 and not XP.

Actually, on Windows 98 ASHWEBSV.EXE is started from: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

To manually configure your browser see the following tutorials:
For IE and permanent connection users: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ieproxy.htm
For IE and dial-up users: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ieproxy_dialup.htm
For Firefox users: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ffproxy.htm

For Firefox users: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ffproxy.htm

Tech the problem is that when i click on the link i get the big picture of the “Missing Plugin”, and i cant install that becouse i will have to install java and some other things and my cpu is enough slow without them.So when i say that someone will have to writte the tutorial for me (post it here) i mean that ::slight_smile: Please

I have Windows 2000, and 98SE, but avast is installed only for W2000

Ok… For Windows 98:

Open Firefox
Go to Tools > Options
On General Tab, choose Connection Settings
Select Manual proxy configuration radio buttom
Select HTTP proxy text box and type localhost
Select Port text box (besides the prior HTTP proxy text box) and type 12080
Click Ok buttom
Click Ok buttom again

I thought that for Windows 2000 and XP you shouldn’t do anything…

avast does not require proxy configuration for Windows 2000.

question already replied to by tech

YES GREAT !!!Thank you tech and everybody else  Its working 8)
