How long before the trouble started had you installed WavXDocMgr?
And thank you very much for getting back to us with the conclusion! Too many folks walk away after their problem is resolved and we never know what fixed the problem. Now I have a new file for my troubleshooting folder. And for XP, no less. Haven’t added a new file in that folder in a fair bit.
Well, the trouble with it is: this is the soft that is pre-installed by DELL on their many computers. It is not a malware per se. And it has been installed since I bought it in 2008.
After I fixed it, I found many a mentioning of similar problems, that I could not find before I knew what I was looking for. Folks complain left and right about it.
Someone on one forum where I asked for help gave me that link to the Investorhub that addresses many problems with this soft.
What I think happened is, the MS issued another update some time this Jan/Feb and it puked on WavX.
Then I restored the Win and it got back to before the new update and worked with WavX until the Windows downloaded that update again, and it kept happening.
What also deceived me was that I thought it was deletion I missed whereas it was re-naming.
All came together in my mind when I went to MS website and they simply had there a general suggestion, that if something persists, a clean boot goes a long way, which I did, and then spent 4 hours switching stuff off and rebooting.
It paid off.
PS. As I said, I am a pro troubleshooter in my previous life, and I never walk away from the folks who were trying to help me without letting them know the result; it is a professional courtesy for me.
