One day I went to update my security software and found 2/3 (Avast and SpyBot but not AdAware) deleted. The programs weren’t uninstalled, but the .exes were deleted, half the time right in front of my eyes.
I went into safe mode I don’t know how many times and reinstalled and ran. This last time I spent 13 hours in safe mode. I ran SpyBot, AdAware, Stinger, Microsoft Malware Removal, Avast!, and AVG. I searched every drive and folder on the highest settings. The results were totally clean.
I just watched the files get deleted again.
I would like to know whats doing this, although I will probably reformat the drive in the next day or so. I’m on a school network thats some kind of breeding ground, and I don’t want to know what could sneak in next. Could anyone tell me what it is?

Ironically, yes: I’m required to use these programs.
The real story is we are required to maintain anti-virus and other security programs, but the rule is unenforced. Of course, considering most of the students don’t take care of their equipment, the rest of us want security software anyway.
The university recommends these programs and doesn’t interfere with them.
